Best Ultra Portable Computer

There has been a number of UMPC - Ultra Portable Personal Computers and Mini-Notebooks/Netbooks that has been made and more upcoming new and better ones since the launch of the popular "Asus Eee PC". I have read and watched reviews of some of these products courtesy of CNET. And almost every video review on these other UMPC's and Mini-notebooks are compared to the Eee PC. So Asus Eee PC is still probably the best one out there. Mainly because of its low price and also of its good performance for basic functions of using a portable computer.

Here are some of the UMPC's and Mini-Notebooks i've looked at, there are a lot of new ones but I only focused on the ones that grabbed my attention from their design, functions and performance. I'll put some of my brief comments about these products.

UMPC's

HTC Shift - This one for me has a good design. You can use it as a handheld PC like using a mobile phone and it can also be placed down like using an ordinary computer like shown below. Its also a touch screen PC. The downside is it has low battery life and its expensive, priced about $1,499.99

Fujitsu LifeBook U810 - According to CNET, this device is the best Ultramobile PC keyboard but I guess not good enough because it has some important missing keys like the Tab Button which is double-mapped on the Spacebar. Meaning the Spacebar is where you also use the Tab Button, and also other keys that are double-mapped. It also has a swivel screen for watching and easy viewing and its touch screen capable. But for me as I saw the video review, it looks too small for me. And it's priced around $859.00 - $999.99, pricey.

Sony Vaio UX - This UMPC is also a handheld device. I kinda like its design too. Touch screen capable. It has improved battery life, but the keyboard and some navigation keys are hard to use, and its expensive. Priced $1,099.99.

The first three ones were great UMPC's but they're way too expensive. These next ones I'll show are also great Portable Computer Mini-Notebooks/Netbooks but much less expensive and also has good performance.

Mini-Notebooks/Netbooks

Everex CloudBook - I didn't find much review on CNET about this product But there was specifications on Everex CloudBook. Which are the basic but important ones; built-in webcam, WiFi, Ethernet, card reader, 1 GB RAM, large 60 GB Hard Drive, and priced for $424.99 - $449.99.

HP 2133 Mini-Note PC - This product from Hewlett Packard has a solid consruction uses magnesium alloy shell and has a stylish design. And one of the best part about it is it has an almost full sized keyboard unlike other mini-notebook. The downside on the review says it has a weak performance and umipressive battery life, and misses out on new Intel Atom CPU which are now used for newer mini-notebooks. The video review says its priced around $499.00 for xp version and $599.00 for linux version.

Asus Eee PC - There are newer and better versions of Asus Eee PC.

Asus Eee PC 4G - This is the first version, it has a 7.0 inches screen, 512MB RAM, 4G Hard Drive, Built-in webcam, 3 USB 2.0 and SD card reader, Ethernet, and WiFi. The Downside is it has no DVD drive, cramped keyboard, very little Hard Drive space, and low screen resolution. But offers an impressive package for portable web browsing and basic productivity. Small, light, fast and efficient and priced for less than $400.00. "It's a near perfect choice for a highly portable second or backup laptop."

Asus Eee PC 900 - This one is much more improved. Bigger 9.0 inch screen in same small package, new touch pad gesture controls and long battery life. The downside, has same old Celeron CPU, keyboard is still cramped. And the price is a little higher than the original but still low, around $528.00 - $619.46.

Asus Eee PC 901 - Slightly bigger than Eee PC 900. Much improved battery life, new mouse and quick launch buttons, now has Intel Atom, and still highly portable and reasonably priced around $578.99 - $613.80. "The Best version of Eee PC."

Asus Eee PC 1000 - The latest version for Eee PC. It has no clear review yet on CNET. Same basic functions and improved 1 GB RAM, 80 GB Hard Drive, and Intel Atom. Still inexpensive, around $560.

All in all my first choice is still the one I like, which is the Asus Eee PC which has improved performance in newer version and still reasonably priced. Has all the basic functions that I need for a portable mini-notebook.
